in brief In today’s announcement of the Samsung Galaxy SIII 4G device, Telstra confirmed it has big plans to ramp up the number of users on its 4G network, confirming it’d launch 4 other 4G-capable handsets between now and December.

“Today we’re announcing the first of five new 4G smartphones to launch on the Telstra Mobile Network between now and December,” a spokesperson for the company said in the statement today.

The company has also been quick to boast about the premier coverage of its 4G network, saying that “Telstra currently offers 4G coverage in more than 100 metropolitan and regional locations across the nation including all capital CBDs. An expansion program, launched last week, will see ultra-fast 4G mobile coverage spread further across all capital cities over the next 10 months. When all new sites are live, Telstra’s 4G service will reach approximately two thirds of the Australian population.”

With Optus now ramping up its 4G rollout, looks like it’s game on for 4G handsets in Australia! Now let the speculation begin about what the other 4 handsets are….. next generation iPhone anyone?
