Fishburner Day: Wattcost.com’s David Soutar

Part of the good things of basing myself at Fishburners for a day if the great conversations I am having over a wide range of topics.

The bad news, sometimes I can not share them.

Case in point is David Soutar, and his project WattCost. A stealth startup focusing on the Electricity market, David has some interesting plans to redefine the market. Which I will not talk abut. Just yet….

I did also ask him how he found working in a place like Fishburners, and he found it very productive. He has a small team that is working part time of the WattCost project, and while he has a 2 man desk in the Ultimo campus, when his team is together.

One thing that David is proud of is that he is an engineer and marketer, and with this project he worked backwards, from defining the market, working out the price point, then developing the product from there. When talking about the issues, I could see that my experience in my day job was parallel to his work in the electricity marketplace, and I could see what barriers had to be broken, especially since some big names have tried and failed previously.

I will be keeping an eye out on WattCost, as this project may be a a huge breakout. Pity I can not tell you more.
