Telstra has confirmed it’s making the final touches to a new iPhone app that will allow customers to check their account on the go.

The My Telstra application, designed for Apple’s iOS platform including the iPhone and iPod Touch, will be made publicly available soon Telstra says, with the company announcing a new program for customers interested in trialling the app last week.

The app – based solely on the screenshot provided – will allow customers to check their usage, view recent bills, recharge and access their services natively from their iPhone.

“We’ve developed a handy app of (y)our own that will make it easier for you to manage your Telstra accounts and services on your iPhone,”  Telstra Digital Media Executive Director, Gerd Schenkel, said in a post on Telstra’s corporate blog.

“We want our app to be an easy way for you to get the whole picture on your account.”

In a bid to make customers feel more a part of the app, Telstra has opened up applications to gain access to a special trial group – dubbed by Telstra the “‘Digital Customer Circle” - that will provide feedback to Telstra’s development team about the app.

While there’s no monetary benefits provided for taking part in the experience, Telstra says it hopes the ability to have a say in the final app will prove to be enough to encourage customers to join.

“We’re going to look to build a diverse group of Telstra Consumer iPhone customers to get the most out of the Circle,” Schenkel wrote.

The company is remaining mum on plans to make the app available on other smartphone platforms, including Google’s open source Android software and Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7 system.

The app isn’t the first from Telstra for the iPhone – it already has a number of apps performing other functions, including one each for the AFL and NRL sporting codes and one for the Trading Post. The company also recently released an app to remotely control its media hub, the T-Box, and has an app for watching Foxtel on the go.
