Red Hat has begun to expand its Brisbane headquarters, with plans to boost engineering and support staff for the Asia Pacific region after it added a third level to its facility.
American-based enterprise Linux firm Red Hat announced last week it has now completed work on a third floor in the current building it occupies in North Quay, Brisbane that’ll allow the company to grow its research, development and support in the region.
Queensland Deputy Director-General for Business Innovation, Department of Employment, Economic Development and Innovation, Darren Crombie, opened the new level for the company at an event last Friday.
The North Quay facility provides support for Asia Pacific and some US customers, as well as the support engineering team, that focuses on internationalising Red Hat software.
“The Brisbane facility is one of Red Hat’s largest support and engineering centres in Asia Pacific, and for the last several years we’ve been increasing our headcount,” Red Hat’s Vice President for Worldwide Engineering Services and Operations, Paul Gampe, said in a statement.
“We’re continuing to invest significantly in local talent to help us with current workloads and to accommodate and scale with the business.”
While the company won’t comment on how many additional staff the new level will hold, it says it’ll allow it to substantially increase the number of staff in the facility.
It also says it continues to work closely with Queensland universities to find talent and “high quality skills”, adding at least five students from Griffith University over the past 12 months.
“With more organisations across the region implementing virtualisation and cloud strategies, the market is demanding high quality skills to support these technologies, and we remain committed to fostering that talent,” Gampe mentioned.
Red Hat expanded into the current North Quay building in August 2008 after it outgrew its initial facility, with the more than 100 employees at the time no longer fitting into the company’s original haunt.
