A day before E3, and of cause Microsoft has its big keynote regarding releases for the XBox line.
Modern Warfare 3opens the show, with a long gameplay set in New York (or under the Hudson River for the most part). The scene involves a Soviet Era Boomer (submarine), frogmen, and a battered and war torn NY skyline.
The game is not an XBox exclusive, but Xbox Live will offer DLC one month before anyone else.
Also shown was the Tomb Raider “reboot” with actual gameplay. The scene involves a clearly wounded Lara Croft in a claustrophobic cave system. The gameplay looks great, and Lara is quite chatty and grimy.
To be released in Q3 2012, it will also be available on PC and PS3.
A lot of games where also announced with Kinect. Sport games from EA including Tiger Woods, Madden and FIFA, a Disneyland Adventure game from Disney A Sesame Street game “Once apon a monster“, and a rather interesting Kinect Star Wars.
Any Star Wars game should sell well, especially when you can use cool Jedi tricks like force push and light saber combat. The issue for me is that while many of the areas are from the original trilogy (including footage of gameplay based on Bespin), the setting is the abomination I call the prequels.
XBox Live TV was also mentioned. While this is currently available on Foxtel, it was mentioned again during the event. No US carrier/cable company was mentioned, so we finally have something to gloat over the US over.
Other announcements includes a new Halo, and a revised Halo 1 updated for Xbox360.
You can view the whole keynote here and details of the announced games: http://www.xbox.com/en-US/Community/E3 (note, you will need to download Silverlight to view the videos)
Next up for E3 will be Nintendo, so stay tuned for more news (and a possible new hardware announcement???)
