Woolworths has today unveiled a new Everyday Mobile service which aims to simplify pre-paid mobile offerings.

Working off the Optus GSM network, over 98% of the population are covered by the service, which Woolworths says is “designed to offer Australian’s simple and low-cost mobile phone rates”.

“Our customers have told us the amount of plans, caps and bonuses is confusing and what they really want is clear and transparent pricing and everyday value” Alex Cochran, Business Manager for Woolworths Everyday Mobile said.

All you need to join the service is an unlocked mobile phone, with call and SMS rates as follows:

15 cents flagfall and 15 cents for 30 seconds customers can make standard voice calls for as little as 30 cents. Customers can also send standard text messages to mobile numbers for 15 cents.

Recharge for the service will be available online, in all Woolworths Limited stores including Dick Smith and in petrol stations.

It will be interesting to see the public’s reaction to this new service – it’s not as if we already have enough teleco companies and the offerings appear to be somewhat similair to some already offered. Let us know your thoughts below.
