Google has entered the real-estate market, now showing listings on Google Maps.

The initiative, available on Google Australia and Google New Zealand, aggregates real estate listings from numerous partners and displays a marker for every available listing. Google announced the new service on their blog, saying

Today we’re adding a feature to Google Maps in Australia that we think will make Maps an even more invaluable resource to Aussies as they go about their busy lives.

Competition is sure to heat up, with Google offering the service for free unlike other sites such as realestate.com.au and domain.com.au which charge for listings. It’s unclear at this stage whether or not Google plans to expand the service to other countries.

It remains to be seen just how effective this service will be because it is missing listings from the top two real estate sites in Australia at the moment.

To access the new service, simply visit http://maps.google.com.au/realestate and follow the prompts.
